Roadtest: Watermaarq Freediving Charter

Courses, tours, custom wetsuits, products, and now Watermaarq adds charter services into their list of ever growing Freedive options!

Recently MFC was invited along to Watermaarq’s inaugural charter service freediving trip.

Destination was a secret, but we we’re sold on the “20m+ depth”. This meant we were not simply putting around Port Philip Bay, but going out of the heads into serious waters.
No casual feat without ample engine power, and Watermaarq’s rigid inflatable with twin 90hps handled it like a hot-knife through butter!

Departing from Sorrento, we did a quick passenger pick-up at Queenscliff, then we were on our way.
The ride was super-smooth, I’m use to banging around in a 4.3m tinnie, but this was joy.
I could literally lay back and put my feet up!

Our skipper was no Sunday driver, a full time mariner, he breezed on-and-off the jetties, and burned out through the heads like he’d done it a million times.

We arrived at our destination just off the coast of Point Lonsdale and had a good 30m depth to play with.
Up-and-down the line until the team was exhausted, I spied Watermaarq CEO and Apnea Academy instructor Marlon throwing in some bonus tips and tricks for the up-and-comers on board – a nice benefit of having someone so qualified running the operation.

Back on the boat, and returning to Sorrento around 1pm our morning session was all over.
Catering for all levels, Watermaarq was backing it up with an afternoon session for the beginners, 0-10m ish.

If you want to get away from the shoreline and tired of bottoming-out on Port Phillip Bay, definitely look into a charter trip with Watermaarq. Depth, Safety, Tips, laughs, a great morning was had by all!
